After meeting Steve and Chrisa during the Thanks for Farming Tour in 2020, Dickson Delorme didn’t expect Steve to be one of his lifeline phone calls during silaging a couple years later.
Delorme, known to many as Quick Dick McDick, farms near Foam Lake, Saskatchewan on a mixed cattle and grain farm. In 2023, Delorme was challenged with trying to swath lodged forage barley and was frustrated by seeing crop left on the ground and with the poor feeding and cutting by the windrower’s factory tines. After trying everything he could think of, Delorme called Steve Kastning, founder and creator of Duck Foot® Parts, for some advice.
“I was scrounging for solutions, so I gave Steve a call. I explained what I was dealing with, and he said, ‘You need to put Duck Feet on your swather.’ A couple days later, Steve and Chrisa came out with the kit and even installed them for me, which was a huge help. Adding the paddle tines and adjusting the reel pitch and speed made a huge difference and we were able to pick up the lodged barley and cut it clean, just as if it were standing.”

Going into the 2025 harvest season, Bar R Ranch has added Duck Foot® paddle tines to their combine as it’s the first year they will be straight combining and have already been battling with lodged crops again. Knowing the difference the slip-over paddle tines made during silaging, Delorme knew he wanted to make the proactive choice to add them before they hit the field.
“If you’re looking to change the game in cereals, pulses, silage, Duck Foot Parts is going to change that game for you.”
No matter the condition of crop you are harvesting, Duck Foot® paddle tines will improve your harvest and ensure you get more crop in your bin and not on the ground. Contact your local Duck Foot® Parts dealer to order yours today or find your nearest dealer using our Find a Dealer map.
